I love this idea: “like the idea of a class that creates its own souvenirs to remember the experience of it years later—maps, zines, diaries, the obligatory study abroad t-shirt. The assignments become objects of record, part of the experience.”

Also, I have read this twice and keep reading it as “shreen zine.” 😆 The effect of word placement!

Hahaha that reading/pronunciation didn’t even occur to me. In my magazine class, Scribendi, the students make a literary magazine every year and we usually make merch for fundraisers, too. Like stickers, shirts, or tote bags. I think that’s where I got the idea about souvenirs—like, why don’t my other classes enjoy this, too?

Would it be helpful if you had some books from our memoir class? I am downsizing everything I can. (Sob. 900 or so decks. Now 700. And I’m still clearing them out!)

I am happy to add those to the honors library if you want to pass them on to other students. Downsizing is so hard—it makes me feel like a hoarder just thinking about it!

Great! I’ll bring them to the closing of the Honors gallery show.

I am so jealous of your students! This seems like an experience of a lifetime. Loved the zine about visiting shrines so much and wish I had that on my own recent trip.

I am hoping it will be great! And maybe the zine can help future travelers to Japan.
