We’ve had so many new subscribers recently that we thought we would take a moment to reintroduce ourselves and Autobiographix. We started this newsletter almost three years ago and have interviewed 29 creators about their work (!), written guides for books to discuss new graphic memoirs (and to get creative while doing it), shared lesson plans and fun comics exercises, and researched and highlighted autobio comics across multiple genres. All of this work has been centered around sharing more autobiographical comics with the world. In celebration, we decided to make a quick comic for you.
Nora Hickey, who previously worked at comic publishers Devil's Due Publishing and Drawn and Quarterly, brings her expertise in poetry and newspaper strips, showcased in publications like Guernica, DIAGRAM, Bennington Review, and more. She is thrilled to live close to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, which she recently wrote about for Hyperallergic. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in social work.
Amaris Ketcham finds her passion in drawing, creative nonfiction, and the occasional line break. Her graphic memoir, Unfiltered: A Cancer Year Diary, was published in 2023. Amaris teaches at the University of New Mexico; her courses regularly include the literary magazine Scribendi, graphic memoir, zines and handmade books, narrative journalism, and creative nonfiction.
